a super-hero without a secret identity

when i'm not throatsinging and harmonizing with random city noises, i work as a technology coach and contributing writer for various technology lifestyle magazines. my background is as a Mac technology professional and web developer, and i have a passion for creating youth programs with a focus on citizen journalism, online privacy rights and bridging the digital divide.

other projects i'm involved with are at MIT's FabLab (fabrication laboratory) at the South End Technology Center (SETC), in Boston, Massachusetts, where i work on personal projects and helped test, document and create artwork for the Fabuntu Linux distro.

i also develop websites (using Drupal, an open-source web application framwork) for online communities, such as Fabracadabra, a FabLab-related community website for artists, inventors and fabricators. another is Stories for Change, a web portal for digital storytellers, filmmakers and community activists.

meanwhile, i'm working on a grant proposal to travel to Mongolia in the next year or two to study throatsinging and its cultural connection to indigenous spirituality. the entire trip will be photo- and video-documented, and it will all be shared through the journal on this website.

some of the things i do when i'm not working are playing chess in Harvard Square, enjoying open mic and a Guinness with friends over a free game of pool at the Milky Way on Monday nights, going to Haymarket (an open-air market in Boston) on weekends, and drumming at the Out of the Blue Gallery on Sunday evenings.

i also have a Friend of a Friend (FOAF) file and a personal status pages that lists my current projects, reading list, physical and online locations, and so on.

about this website

the characters contained in the title of each page (大天人, or dài tiān rén) is the closest translation i could find of the word "parahuman" in Chinese

the photograph on the from the front page (showing prayer bells at the Doi Suthep temple in Chiang Mai, Thailand) is provided courtesy of stock.xchange, a free stock photography site

this website is fueled with lots of yerba maté and is made with several tools in Kubuntu Linux and Mac OS X, including BBEdit, Illustrator and Photoshop. mobile updates to the journal are made possible by plog

parahuman is hosted by SustainableWebsites, a "100% carbon-neutral" webhosting company that offsets all of its energy use with wind power, a renewable energy source (read more in my journal entry, who's behind your website?)
